About the course:
This course is designed for those who currently work or those about to work as members of an international team. It is particularly advantageous for participants to attend with other members of the same team. The course covers the major topics of team working and dynamics and the importance of the role that cultural diversity plays in the successful achievement of the final goal.

The course typically takes place over two days and is highly interactive. Presentations and group discussions are reinforced via real-life case studies and specific examples. Participants are encouraged to use the training to agree the way in which they will work together in the future and set the standards for team dynamics and delivery.

The course objectives are:
  • Increase the team’s chances of successful delivery by equipping them with a tried and tested model for multicultural team working.
  • Improve communication both within the team and with their key stakeholders.
  • Learn and practice how to get the best from the team’s cultural diversity and avoid the cultural pitfalls.

This section covers introduction by the trainers and participants followed by a brief outline of the course content, objectives and participants’ expectations.
Key concepts are discussed and defined e.g. team, multicultural, cultural awareness, diversity, successful delivery, and stakeholders.
 
What does a successful international team look likeSection 2: What does a successful international team look like?
This section discusses the international team model including the project brief, roles and responsibilities of team members, leadership, process, network and final delivery. Examples of successful teams and their critical success factors are used to illustrate each stage of the model.
 
The importance of  the “international” or “multicultural” element in team behaviourSection 3: The importance of the “international” or “multicultural” element in team behaviour;
This section discusses:
  • key role that culture plays in determining our attitudes, expectations, values and behaviours and the effect this has on interactions between team members.
  • Country specific comparisons between key nationalities is discussed and their effects on ways of working, communication, timings, empowerment, finding agreement and problem solving.
  • key benefits (enhanced creativity and problem solving, better consumer relevance, motivation etc.)
  • key challenges (common misunderstandings, differing goals and ways of working, crisis management etc.).
Communication, communication, communicationSection 4: Communication, communication, communication;
Communication is arguably the most critical issue for international teams. This section covers: non-verbal communication, effects of English as the business language, the advantages and risks of electronic communication. Participants also learn the importance of good communication in moments of crises as well as how to communicate well in team meetings and presentations.
 
Winning the cupSection 5: Winning the cup!
This section rounds up the key learnings of the seminar. Participants are encouraged to reach agreement as to how they will manage their own multicultural team in the future in order to ensure successful delivery.
